Alex Iwobi Speaks Out After Stunning Goal in Wolves Defeat: “We Have to Keep Going”

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his disappointment following his side’s 4-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, despite opening the scoring with a sensational left-footed strike.

The Super Eagles star lit up Craven Cottage in the 20th minute with a curling effort into the top corner, leaving Wolves goalkeeper José Sá with no chance. However, Wolves stormed back into the game, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice and additional goals from Joao Gomes and Gonçalo Guedes, sealing their first away win of the season.

Reflecting on the loss, Iwobi pointed to Fulham’s inability to maintain their intensity after the break, a key factor in Wolves’ comeback.

“I’m not too sure. I feel like in the second half, we didn’t have the same intensity as the first,” Iwobi told Fulham’s official website. “That’s how goals quickly change games and gave them the confidence to kick on. Even though they scored, we need to keep the same composure and remain calm, no matter what.”

The former Arsenal player emphasized the importance of playing with consistency for the full 90 minutes, urging his team to improve ahead of a packed fixture schedule.

“We struggled to dominate like we did [in the first half], so credit to them, but we’re going to look at ourselves to improve. We have to play the game for 90 minutes. We weren’t able to keep the same form that we had in the first half, so we have to analyse and go again.

We can’t dwell on this. We have to keep on going and push on. Obviously, games come thick and fast, so we can put it right in the next game,” he concluded.

Iwobi’s brilliant goal marked his 25th career Premier League strike and further highlighted his growing influence in the Fulham squad. Notably, the Nigerian international now boasts more goal contributions in England’s top flight than Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.
