“Our Goal Is 2026 World Cup Qualification” – MP Adams Abdul-Salam

New Edubiase MP pledges support for Black Stars and local sports development under Mahama-led NDC government

The Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, Adams Abdul-Salam, has expressed the commitment of the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to ensuring Ghana’s Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His assurance came shortly after John Dramani Mahama and the NDC were declared winners of the 2024 general elections. Despite Ghana’s recent disappointment in failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Abdul-Salam emphasized the government’s determination to revive the national team’s fortunes.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, he stated:
“President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup. While we missed the 2025 AFCON, we will work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by providing the necessary logistics to ensure success in the upcoming qualifiers.”

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, tied on nine points with Comoros. With matches against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March 2025, the government plans to prioritize the team’s preparation and support.

Additionally, Abdul-Salam reiterated his commitment to local sports development, vowing to complete the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.
“During the campaign, I presented four key demands to John Mahama, one of which was the completion of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium. The previous NDC government began the project, but it was stalled under the NPP administration. Under Mahama’s leadership, we will ensure its completion,” he promised.

The stadium, once completed, is expected to boost sports infrastructure in the constituency and support grassroots football development in the region.
