SC Freiburg is taking a measured approach to the recovery of Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who has been sidelined since suffering a devastating cruciate ligament injury nearly two years ago. Head coach Julian Schuster has stressed the importance of patience, ensuring the 27-year-old regains full fitness before making his highly anticipated return to the pitch.
“Kofi still has a way to go,” Schuster remarked during a recent update. “After such a long absence, the focus is on rebuilding his general fitness. Every recovery process is unique, and his has shown encouraging signs so far, but we can’t rush it.”
Schuster refrained from setting a concrete timeline for Kyereh’s comeback, underlining that the priority is a complete recovery rather than a premature return. “Given the length of his injury layoff, it’s impossible to pinpoint an exact timeframe. We’re focused on his long-term health and performance.”
The absence of Kyereh has been keenly felt by both Freiburg and the Ghanaian national team. The attacking midfielder was last seen in action during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role for the Black Stars. Since then, his absence has left a void in Ghana’s midfield as the team navigates a challenging period.
Fans of both club and country are eagerly awaiting his return, but Schuster’s cautious approach suggests that Kyereh will only step back onto the field when he is fully prepared to perform at his best.
