As AS Monaco prepares for their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates, manager Adi Hütter is banking on the Premier League experience of Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu to give his team an edge.
Salisu, who spent three years in the English top flight with Southampton before moving to Monaco in the summer of 2023, has become a key figure in Hütter’s squad. Despite a slow start in France due to recurring injuries, the 24-year-old has risen to prominence this season, solidifying his place in the starting XI. His standout performances include a goal and a spot in the Champions League Team of the Week on matchday four.
In his pre-match press conference, Hütter emphasized the importance of Salisu’s familiarity with the English game:
“We have with us Thilo Kehrer and Mohammed Salisu, who know the Premier League very well, as does Takumi Minamino. But we also have a very good mix of experienced players like our Brazilian full-backs and Aleksandr Golovin, combined with young talents.”
Salisu’s return to English soil marks his first since leaving Southampton, and the Ghanaian international is expected to start as Monaco looks to upset the Gunners in their own backyard.
With a squad boasting a balance of seasoned professionals and emerging stars, Hütter is confident his side can challenge Mikel Arteta’s team.
The match at the Emirates on Wednesday night promises to be a thrilling encounter as Salisu aims to leave his mark against one of England’s best.
