Dutch international and Corinthians forward Memphis Depay has brought excitement to the streets of Nima, a vibrant community in Accra, Ghana. The 30-year-old, who is of Ghanaian descent, joined locals for a small-sided football match during his off-season holiday and made his mark with a well-taken goal.
Taking to social media, Depay shared his joy, writing: “Scored my first goal in Nima yesterday, sending my love to the community there. It was great sharing a moment with y’all! #Ghana.”
The former Manchester United star arrived in Ghana last week after the conclusion of the Brazilian league, where he impressed for Corinthians with seven goals and an assist in just 11 games since his free-agent move in September.
During his time in Ghana, Depay has been immersing himself in local culture. On Friday, he was seen in Bukom, accompanied by long-time friend and 2024 Independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar. The pair were spotted enjoying amateur boxing matches, a nod to the sporting spirit of the area.
Depay’s visit to Nima highlights his deep connection to his Ghanaian roots, especially in a town renowned for nurturing football talent, including Black Stars talisman Mohammed Kudus. The footballer’s presence brought joy and inspiration to the local community, cementing his status as both a global star and a proud son of Ghana.
