Nnamdi Collins, the rising defensive talent from Eintracht Frankfurt, has made a significant decision about his international future, opting to represent Germany rather than Nigeria. The 20-year-old, born in Germany to Nigerian parents, has always dreamed of playing for Die Mannschaft, a goal he has now realized by committing to the German national team.

Collins, who has progressed through Germany’s youth ranks from U15 to U21, recently made his U21 debut in November 2024, playing a key role in Germany’s 3-0 victory over Denmark and a 2-2 draw with France. His stellar performances at club level, including 11 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, have caught the eye of Germany’s senior national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann.

In an interview with Sky Germany, Collins shared his excitement about the prospect of playing for Germany, stating, “It would be a lie if I said otherwise. The dream of playing for the national team really drives me.” Despite his Nigerian heritage and eligibility to play for the Super Eagles, the versatile centre-back has long had his sights set on representing Germany on the international stage.

Collins’ decision adds to a growing trend of dual-nationality players choosing other nations over Nigeria. Notable names like Kevin Schade (Germany) and Ebere Eze (England) have also opted for countries outside of Nigeria, highlighting the challenge Nigeria faces in securing young, talented players for the future.

At Eintracht Frankfurt, Collins has already impressed under head coach Dino Toppmöller, earning a contract extension until 2030 after his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2023. His next goal is to perform well in the U21 European Championship and continue building on his promising career.

While his future with Germany’s senior team remains a dream for now, Collins is focused on his short-term objectives and is determined to contribute to his team’s success in the coming months.
