Mario Balotelli Linked with Cruz Azul Move Amid Genoa Struggles

Mario Balotelli’s future at Genoa appears uncertain as the Italian striker is reportedly considering a move to Mexican side Cruz Azul. The 34-year-old forward, who joined Genoa as a free agent in October 2024, has found game time hard to come by, clocking just 56 minutes across six substitute appearances this season.

Sources close to the player suggest Balotelli is dissatisfied with his current role at the Serie A club and could be eyeing an exit before the upcoming transfer window. A clause in his contract permits either party to terminate the agreement before June 2025, paving the way for a potential departure.

Cruz Azul, a powerhouse in Liga MX, is said to be keen on bolstering their attacking options and has identified the former Manchester City star as a prime target. The Mexican club is reportedly ready to offer Balotelli a lucrative deal worth €2 million per season, which could entice the forward to make the leap to North America.

Balotelli, of Ghanaian descent, has had a storied career spanning some of Europe’s top leagues, and a move to Cruz Azul could provide the experienced forward with a fresh start as he looks to reignite his form.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, the football world will be watching closely as Balotelli weighs his options.
