Ghana Captain Shines Despite Le Havre’s Sixth Straight Defeat
Andre Ayew’s impressive start to 2025 continued as the Ghanaian captain scored his second goal in as many games, but his efforts were in vain as Le Havre fell 2-1 to RC Lens at Stade Océane.
Coming off a touching moment last week when he scored against his boyhood club Marseille but chose not to celebrate, Ayew wasted no time making an impact on Saturday. In the ninth minute, the 33-year-old showed his poacher’s instinct, reacting quickly to slot home a rebound after Hervé Koffi’s save.
Despite the early lead, Le Havre struggled to seize control of the game. Yoann Salmier spurned a golden chance to double their advantage, and Lens capitalized. Debutant Goduine Koyalipou leveled the score with a clinical header just before halftime.
The second half belonged to Lens, who piled on the pressure until Deiver Machado’s 77th-minute strike completed the comeback, condemning Le Havre to their sixth consecutive loss.
For Ayew, back-to-back goals demonstrate his unwavering determination to inspire his struggling side. However, Le Havre remains in deep trouble, sitting four points adrift of safety in Ligue 1.
The veteran forward’s leadership and form could be pivotal as Le Havre battles to avoid relegation in the weeks ahead.
