Jamie Leweling is making steady strides toward reclaiming a starting role following his recovery from a serious thigh injury. The 23-year-old German-Ghanaian winger has gradually increased his playing time, featuring for 15 minutes against FC Augsburg and nearly 30 minutes in his team’s narrow 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig.
Despite the progress, manager Sebastian Hoeneß remains cautious, emphasizing the need for a measured approach. “He definitely won’t play 90 minutes. We have to deal with it responsibly,” Hoeneß said, highlighting the importance of managing Leweling’s comeback carefully.
Leweling has been out of action for over a month due to his injury but received positive feedback after the Leipzig game. “He came out of the game well. Now he should be back again a few days later,” the coach noted, expressing optimism about the winger’s readiness.
While Leweling might not yet be fit for a full match, Hoeneß hinted that a starting role could be possible this weekend if the player is capable of handling around 60 minutes of action. “We all have to wait and see what happens tomorrow,” he added.
As Leweling continues to build his fitness and confidence, fans are eager to see him return to his best form and make a significant impact for his team.
