In a pulsating Bundesliga 2 Round 18 showdown at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Darmstadt played out an electrifying 2-2 draw that left fans at the edge of their seats.
The home side took the initiative early on, with German-Ghanaian forward Moritz-Broni Kwarteng dazzling the crowd with his creativity. In the 41st minute, Kwarteng’s incisive through-ball unlocked the Darmstadt defense, allowing Myron van Brederode to rifle home a low shot into the bottom corner.
Düsseldorf extended their lead in the second half when Giovanni Haag unleashed a stunning curling effort into the top corner in the 61st minute. At 2-0, the hosts seemed destined for victory, but Darmstadt had other plans.
The visitors staged a dramatic comeback, led by the unstoppable Killian Corredor. The forward coolly converted a penalty in the 69th minute and, just three minutes later, rose highest to nod in Aleksandar Vukotic’s pinpoint cross, silencing the home crowd.
While Düsseldorf dominated much of the game, creating several big chances, they failed to find a decisive third goal. Kwarteng, who played 85 minutes, was a standout performer, his tireless energy and vision leaving a lasting impression despite the missed opportunity for victory.
The result leaves Düsseldorf reflecting on their missed chances as they prepare to face Karlsruher SC on January 25th, hoping to return to winning ways.
