Osimhen to Manchester United? Ferdinand Pushes for Loan Deal to Bolster Red Devils’ Attack

A Bold Move to Revive United’s Season and Guide Young Forwards

Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United legend, has called on his former club to consider an ambitious loan move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen before the January transfer window closes. Ferdinand believes the Nigerian striker could not only solve United’s attacking woes but also provide invaluable mentorship to young forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been unstoppable this season, racking up 16 goals and 5 assists in 20 appearances, including 12 league goals in just 15 games. The 26-year-old’s prolific form has reignited interest despite his tumultuous exit from Napoli, where tensions with coach Antonio Conte led to his loan departure.

Speaking on Rio Presents, Ferdinand passionately advocated for the move:

“Højlund has potential, but right now it’s not enough. Osimhen is the complete striker—goals, experience, leadership. If United can make this happen financially, it could transform their season.”

Ferdinand emphasized that Osimhen’s presence could provide a masterclass for the club’s younger strikers:

“You’ve got Zirkzee, who’s like Osimhen in style. Pairing them with someone who’s done it at the highest level would be invaluable. This is the perfect opportunity.”

United, under pressure to strengthen their attack, have explored other options like Randal Kolo Muani, but with the Frenchman now at Juventus, Ferdinand sees Osimhen as the ideal fit.

While a mid-season move for the Nigerian international presents challenges, FIFA rules allow him to play for a third club this season since he didn’t feature for Napoli before his Galatasaray stint. However, the Serie A champions would need to recall him and sanction a move to Old Trafford—a complex but not impossible scenario.

Ferdinand concluded with optimism:

“Osimhen is a game-changer. He’s exactly what United need—someone to score, inspire, and mentor. The time to act is now.”

As Manchester United scramble for reinforcements, could Osimhen’s arrival be the spark they desperately need to reignite their campaign?
