Liverpool and Newcastle Eye Rising Star Assane Diao for Right-Wing Reinforcements

Teen Sensation Assane Diao on Premier League Radar as Liverpool and Newcastle Show Interest

At just 19, Assane Diao is making waves in Serie A, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Despite only recently joining Como from Real Betis for a club-record €12 million in January, the teenage winger is already attracting interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Newcastle.

Diao, who was born in Spain to Senegalese parents, has been a standout talent at youth level, representing Spain’s U-18, U-19, and U-21 squads. He was also part of the team that clinched the 2024 U-19 European Championship. His rise began in La Liga, where Brentford showed interest last summer, but he ultimately opted for a move to Italy, linking up with Cesc Fabregas at Como.

His transition to Serie A has been nothing short of spectacular. With four goals in his first four matches, Diao has showcased the kind of attacking flair that has caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouts. The Reds are preparing for a potential future without Mohamed Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season. While Salah has yet to commit to a new deal, speculation about his departure has intensified, making Diao a possible successor on the right flank.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also monitoring the young winger as they seek reinforcements following Miguel Almirón’s exit. Eddie Howe is keen to maintain his side’s attacking threat, and Diao’s versatility and goal-scoring ability make him a prime candidate.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the battle for Diao’s signature could intensify, with Liverpool and Newcastle keeping a close eye on his progress in Serie A.
