In a dramatic FA Cup fifth-round clash, Brighton & Hove Albion emerged victorious over Newcastle United in a game filled with twists, goals, and red cards.
Newcastle set the tone early at St. James’ Park, taking the lead in the 22nd minute through Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who calmly slotted home a penalty. Brighton, however, refused to back down, and Gambian youngster Yankubah Minteh restored parity 22 minutes later with a well-taken effort.
Tensions flared late in the second half when Newcastle’s Antony Gordon received a straight red card following an altercation with Brighton defender Van Hecke. Shortly after, Ghanaian right-back Tariq Lamptey found himself sent off as well, picking up a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Jacob Murphy.
With both sides down to ten men, the game was forced into extra time. It was then that English-Ghanaian forward Danny Welbeck stole the show, delivering a moment of brilliance to lob the ball past Martin Dubravka, sealing Brighton’s passage to the next round.
A night of high drama ended in heartbreak for Newcastle and celebration for Brighton, as the Seagulls continued their FA Cup journey in style.
