Jerry Afriyie Shines on CD Lugo Debut Despite Defeat to SD Tarazona

In a night of mixed emotions for young Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie, the 18-year-old made a memorable debut for Spanish side CD Lugo despite their 2-1 loss to SD Tarazona.

Coming off the bench in the second half, Afriyie wasted no time in making his presence felt. Replacing Jon Cabo, the dynamic forward injected energy into Lugo’s attack, eventually winning a crucial penalty that Brian Mendoza confidently converted. However, Lugo’s hopes of a comeback were dashed by Tarazona’s Adrián Fuentes, who had already struck twice—first with a powerful header and then from the penalty spot.

Afriyie’s journey to Spain has been an inspiring one. After securing a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah from Ghanaian lower-tier side Thoughts FC, he was loaned to CD Lugo in February for further development. The talented forward is expected to spend the remainder of the season in Spain before linking up with his parent club in Saudi Arabia.

His impressive debut only strengthens his case for a call-up to the Black Stars squad ahead of Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March. With his talent and hunger evident, Afriyie is poised for a bright future on both club and international stages.
