Christantus Uche’s camp has shut down reports linking the Getafe midfielder with a potential summer move to La Liga powerhouse Atlético Madrid.
The 21-year-old, who has been a standout performer in Spain’s top flight with three goals and three assists in 27 appearances, was previously on the radar of former Mali head coach Eric Chelle during his Super Eagles scouting mission. Chelle even included Uche in a 39-man provisional squad list, though the young talent is yet to earn his first senior cap for Nigeria.
Recent reports suggested that Atlético Madrid had opened talks to secure Uche’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window. However, representatives from Pintex Sports—Uche’s management agency—have firmly denied these claims.
“Rumors will always appear when a player is as talented as Chris [Uche], but we are aware of all the implications. It’s an honor that he is linked to Atlético Madrid and other big clubs, but we are not in talks with anyone,” a source close to Uche’s camp told Sportsblog247.com.
Despite growing interest from major European clubs like Atlético Madrid and Chelsea, Uche remains focused on his current club. With a contract binding him to Getafe until 2028—plus an option for a one-year extension—his representatives insist he is committed to finishing the season strongly.
“We don’t know what the future holds,” the source added. “The goal is to finish the season on a high note, and we’ll see. He has a long-term contract with Getafe and he’s thriving there.”
As the season progresses, Uche’s performances continue to draw attention, leaving open the possibility of both a future transfer and a long-awaited debut for Nigeria’s senior national team.
