VfL Bochum’s fight to stay in the Bundesliga has taken a worrying turn, as in-form striker Myron Boadu faces a potential spell on the sidelines just days before a make-or-break fixture.
The Dutch-Ghanaian forward, who has been instrumental in Bochum’s survival push, suffered swelling in his knee following their recent 0-0 draw against FC Heidenheim. The setback puts his participation in Saturday’s critical encounter against FSV Mainz 05 in serious doubt.
Head coach Dieter Hecking shared the grim update on Tuesday, stating, “He had to sign off with a thick knee and will undergo examinations today. We’re still waiting on the results, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to training.”
Boadu, on loan from AS Monaco since August, has impressed despite Bochum’s overall struggles. With seven goals and one assist in 17 Bundesliga appearances, the 23-year-old has emerged as a rare spark in a difficult campaign.
Bochum currently sit bottom of the table with 22 points from 32 games. With only two matches remaining, the possible absence of their top scorer could prove costly in their desperate bid to avoid relegation.
