Ghanaian starlet Mohammed Sofo delivered a stunning performance to guide New York Red Bulls to a dominant 4-1 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the Leagues Cup round of 32. The 20-year-old winger, enjoying a breakout season, stole the spotlight with a brilliant brace that showcased both flair and clinical finishing.
Sofo set the tone early, dazzling his marker with a series of quick turns before rifling a low shot into the bottom corner in the 16th minute. His second came just before the break, as he latched onto a perfectly threaded pass from Noah Eile and coolly slotted home to double the lead.
Dennis Gjengaar added a third after halftime to put the game further out of reach. Although Colorado Springs briefly threatened a comeback through Anthony Fofana, Sean Nealis sealed the win with a late fourth for the Red Bulls.
Sofo’s fellow Ghanaian, Ronald Donkor, also played a key role, featuring for the full 90 minutes as New York marched into the round of 16 with confidence.
