Raymond Asante Shines as Super Sub in Charleroi’s Playoff Victory

Raymond Asante delivered a game-changing performance off the bench to help Sporting Charleroi secure a 2-1 win over OH Leuven in the Belgian Conference League playoffs on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Ghanaian midfielder, on loan from an Italian club, came on after halftime and quickly made his presence felt. With his slick passing, clever movement, and relentless energy, Asante became the driving force behind Charleroi’s second-half surge.

Statistically, Asante was exceptional. According to FotMob, he was the most accurate passer among players who featured for 45 minutes or more, boasting a flawless 100% pass completion rate. He was also the most fouled player in the match, drawing three fouls, and contributed an expected goals (xG) factor of 0.03.

His influence did not go unnoticed, as he was named Man of the Match — a notable accolade for a player who didn’t even start the game. The former Young Apostles FC talent has been a standout in Charleroi’s U23 setup this season, scoring seven goals in 14 appearances.

With performances like this, Charleroi may look to keep Asante beyond his loan spell as they push for a spot in UEFA’s Europa Conference League.
