Ghana’s Black Queens are not just chasing football glory — they’re inspiring a whole new generation of young women across the country. This was the powerful message from Ashaiman MP and Chairman of Parliament’s Sports Committee, Ernest Norgbey, who took to the floor of Parliament on Monday to commend the Queens ahead of their highly anticipated WAFCON semi-final clash against hosts Morocco.
Norgbey hailed the team’s remarkable run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, describing it as more than just sporting success. “This is a story of resilience, unity, and national pride,” he said. “At a time when our youth crave positive role models, the Black Queens have shown that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.”
The Queens are on the verge of history, seeking their first WAFCON final appearance since 2006. After navigating a tricky group stage, they dismantled Tanzania 4-1 and battled past Algeria in a tense penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan emerging as the heroine.
As they gear up for Tuesday’s semi-final showdown under the lights in Rabat, the Queens carry the hopes of an entire nation — and the dreams of young women who see their own potential reflected in this determined squad.
