A New Dawn for African Football: FIFA Opens Landmark Africa Office in Morocco

In a moment that marked both history and hope for African football, FIFA officially inaugurated its Africa office at the prestigious Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, Morocco, on a vibrant Saturday morning filled with pride and promise.

Presided over by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the landmark ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including CAF President Patrice Motsepe, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, and several leaders from across the football world.

“This is not just an office—it is a symbol of global unity, ambition, and Africa’s rightful place at football’s highest table,” Infantino said passionately. He described the moment as “a historic, joyful day that will be engraved in golden letters in the history of FIFA and football in Africa.”

The timing of the inauguration was particularly symbolic, coinciding with Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations. Infantino paid tribute to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, crediting the monarch’s unique commitment and visionary investment in sport for pushing African football to new heights.

Set within the state-of-the-art Mohammed VI Football Complex—already considered one of the most advanced football facilities in the world—the new FIFA Africa Office will serve as a strategic hub for the continent and beyond.

“This is not merely an African headquarters,” Infantino emphasized, “it is a global FIFA center. Its influence will stretch far beyond this continent.”

CAF President Motsepe echoed this sentiment, proudly stating, “There could not be a better place than Morocco to establish this vital FIFA base.” He acknowledged King Mohammed VI’s relentless support for African football and expressed confidence in the continent’s future, referencing Morocco’s inspiring semi-final finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The timing of the inauguration was especially poetic, taking place just hours before the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Nigeria in Rabat. Infantino hailed it as “a great celebration of women’s football,” spotlighting the unrivaled passion of Moroccan fans.

As Morocco prepares to host an array of major global tournaments—including the 2025 AFCON, multiple FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cups, and the historic 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal—the new FIFA Africa office represents more than a building. It is a symbol of ambition, unity, and Africa’s football future lighting up the global stage.
