Rwanda’s national team, Amavubi, will kick off preparations for their next round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a residential training camp starting August 25, as they gear up for high-stakes clashes against Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
Head coach Adel Amrouche and his technical team are aiming to keep Rwanda’s World Cup hopes alive as they face two decisive Group C fixtures. First up, the East Africans will lock horns with the Super Eagles of Nigeria on September 6 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Just three days later, they travel to South Africa to play Zimbabwe at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on September 9.
According to the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa), the initial camp will feature domestic-based players, with foreign-based stars expected to report by September 1, just days before the first game.
Rwanda currently sits second in Group C with eight points, tied with Benin but behind group leaders South Africa who have 13 points. Nigeria, in fourth, trails Rwanda by a single point, while Lesotho and Zimbabwe round out the group with six and five points respectively.
With the group still wide open, the upcoming fixtures could prove decisive in determining which nation advances to the next stage of World Cup qualification. For Amrouche’s men, it’s a chance to make history—and their preparations are set to begin in earnest.
