German-born Ghanaian defender Frank Ronstadt has completed a deadline-day loan move to 3. Liga side Viktoria Köln from 2. Bundesliga outfit FC Kaiserslautern.
The 28-year-old full-back, who came through the youth ranks at Hamburger SV, has struggled for game time in Kaiserslautern colors this season. With the switch to Cologne, he now seeks regular minutes and a fresh opportunity to prove his quality.
Viktoria Köln confirmed the deal shortly after sealing the signing of Joel Agyekum, making Ronstadt their second capture on a frantic deadline day. The versatile defender, capable of operating across multiple positions but most comfortable on the wing, will spend the 2024/25 campaign at Sportpark Höhenberg.
Speaking after his unveiling, Ronstadt expressed delight at the move:
“I’m very happy and, above all, grateful to be here in Cologne from now on. I’ll give my all from the very first training session and show full commitment. I am convinced that I can help the team with my strengths and that we can achieve our goals for the season.”
Viktoria’s sporting director Stephan Küsters praised the deal:
“It was an extremely quick transfer, completed last night with the help of FCK at short notice. Franky is an experienced player we haven’t had in our ranks before, and he enriches us across the board.”
Although Ronstadt has represented Germany at U16, U17, and U19 levels, the Hamburg-born right-back remains eligible to play for Ghana at the senior international stage.
