Onuachu Slams Turkish Referees After Controversial VAR Call Costs Trabzonspor

Nigeria international Paul Onuachu didn’t hold back his frustration with officiating in the Turkish Super Lig following Trabzonspor’s 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahçe on Sunday.

The striker thought he had given his side an early lead in the 11th minute, heading home a well-timed cross. But after a VAR review flagged a potential foul in the build-up, referee Ozan Ergün disallowed the goal. Onuachu, clearly angered by the decision, was shown a yellow card for dissent and didn’t mince words after the match.

“It’s a shame for the Turkish league! They have to do better,” the 31-year-old said while leaving the pitch.

Trabzonspor couldn’t recover from the setback, with Moroccan forward Youssef En-Nesyri netting the only goal of the game to secure victory for Fenerbahçe.
