Dr. Pambo Checks on Salisu in Monaco as Black Stars Step Up World Cup Preparations

Black Stars head team doctor, Dr. Prince Pambo, has paid a visit to injured defender Mohammed Salisu in Monaco as part of efforts to monitor the player’s recovery ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Dr. Pambo travelled to France to offer support and personally assess Salisu’s condition after the centre-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January during Monaco’s Ligue 1 clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

The visit allowed the Black Stars’ medical chief to evaluate the progress of the 24-year-old, who has already begun rehabilitation and resumed light gym work in recent days, showing encouraging signs of recovery.

Although Salisu is expected to be sidelined for four to six months, there remains optimism that the former Southampton defender could regain fitness in time for the World Cup in North America in June.

Salisu has been a vital figure for Ghana, featuring in seven FIFA World Cup qualifiers and scoring twice as the Black Stars secured qualification for the global showpiece in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Before the injury setback, the centre-back had established himself as a regular starter for AS Monaco and delivered impressive performances in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

He made his Black Stars debut in September 2022, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Brazil. Salisu netted his first international goal in a 2-0 friendly victory over Switzerland on November 17, 2022.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pambo is also expected to check on other Ghanaian players based in France, including injured midfielder Abu Francis, as Ghana intensifies preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in what promises to be a challenging group.
