The KGL Millennium Marathon’s tenth edition was officially launched on February 15 at the KGL Group Ghana office in Accra. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, joined by representatives of the marathon’s sponsors. Scheduled for September 7, the 2024 edition will showcase iconic locations such as the Accra Sports Stadium, Osu Oxford Street, Prisons Headquarters, Nationalism Park, World Trade Centre, and Jubilee House.
The Race Director & Managing Partner at Millennium Marathon announced a significant milestone, stating that the event is now certified by World Athletics. This recognition places the Millennium Marathon on the World Athletics Global Calendar, making it the first-ever event in Ghana to achieve such status. The elevated prestige is expected to attract top-tier athletes from around the world.
In a bid to enhance precision for professional competitors, this year’s competition will introduce timing chips. Cash prizes will be awarded to participants finishing in the top 25, with the winner of the 21km event receiving GH₵ 75,000.
