Children of Emmanuel Awuley Quaye Visit Ghana Olympic Committee

On Friday, the four children of the late football icon, Emmanuel Awuley Quaye, affectionately known as ‘Black Foyoo’, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to formally communicate the passing and burial arrangements of their father.

President Ben Nunoo Mensah warmly received them, extending his sympathies and condolences on behalf of the sports federations and athletes of Ghana. He reminisced about shared experiences with the former star defender and other retired footballers, highlighting Awuley Quaye’s impactful leadership and his role in leading Ghana to victory in the African Cup of Nations in 1978.

Mensah encouraged the children to remain resilient, acknowledging their father’s irreplaceable legacy in Ghanaian football. He emphasized that while Awuley Quaye’s passing leaves a void, his inspirational leadership will continue to shape future generations.

Rev. Awuley Quaye Junior, a former footballer himself, introduced his siblings and announced the burial arrangements, scheduled for June 8, 2024, at the forecourt of the State House.

The delegation was accompanied by esteemed sports journalist Dan Kweku Yeboah, while the GOC conference room hosted notable figures such as Mr. Albert K. Frimpong, President of African Baseball, and Rev. E.D. Nikoi, President of Ghana Netball.

Emmanuel Awuley Quaye, a pivotal figure in Ghanaian football, passed away on March 25, 2024. In recognition of his significant contributions to the sport, he was honored by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) at their 47th awards ceremony in 2023.
