Arsenal’s emerging talent, Chidozie Obi-Martin, is poised to make his mark on the international stage as he secures a spot in Denmark’s squad for the prestigious 2024 European U17 Championship in Cyprus, according to Sportblog247.com.
Denmark’s Football Union unveiled its 20-player roster, including the prolific Arsenal U18 striker, who has been in scintillating form leading up to the tournament. Obi-Martin arrives with an impressive record, having scored in eight consecutive matches in the U18 Premier League, amassing a remarkable total of 29 goals for the season. Notably, he surpassed Folarin Balogun’s record for the most league goals by an Arsenal U18 player in a single season.
Since his debut for Denmark’s U17 national team in August 2023, Obi-Martin has notched ten goals in fourteen appearances for the age group. During the upcoming championship in Cyprus, he aims to follow in the footsteps of Nigerian stars with Chelsea connections, Victor Moses and Dominic Solanke, who were top scorers in the U17 EURO in 2007 and 2014, respectively.
Denmark finds itself in Group B of the European Championship, set to face Austria, Croatia, and Wales in the group stage. Notably, the clash with Austria on May 26 could feature two Nigeria-eligible players, including the highly-touted Red Bull Salzburg striker, Oghenetejiri Adejenughure, who has earned a place in Austria’s final squad.
