Kenya Faces Venue Dilemma for World Cup Qualifiers Due to Stadium Renovations

Nairobi — Kenya confronts the prospect of relocating its World Cup qualifier matches against Ivory Coast and Burundi if renovation works at Nyayo National Stadium are not completed by June. With Nyayo Stadium undergoing renovations and Moi Stadium Kasarani also closed for similar works, Kenya may have to seek alternative venues for the crucial matches. The Ministry of Sports is in discussions with FIFA and CAF to determine the best course of action. If Nyayo Stadium remains unfinished by mid-May, Kenya may consider hosting the games in neighboring Tanzania or Rwanda. This potential move would deprive Kenya of its home advantage in the qualifiers, impacting its World Cup aspirations. The situation is exacerbated by the current rainy season, which has led to concerns about overuse of existing match venues like Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
