Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has earned a nomination for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season accolade, following an impressive debut season with Bayer Leverkusen.

Competing for the prestigious title alongside him are notable talents such as Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen, who has made waves at Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, on loan from PSG, and Hoffenheim’s forward Maximilian Beier.

Boniface’s remarkable start saw him clinch the monthly award four times in August, September, October, and November, respectively. During this period, he showcased his prowess with seven goals and five assists in his first 12 appearances.

Although an injury disrupted his momentum and sidelined him from representing the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Boniface has made a strong return, contributing four goals and assists since his comeback last month. His overall tally for the season stands at an impressive 13 goals and nine assists.

With the season drawing to a close, Boniface eyes a remarkable feat: surpassing Taiwo Awoniyi as the highest-scoring Nigerian in a single Bundesliga campaign. Should he net a hat-trick on the final matchday, he’ll achieve this historic milestone.
