Queen of The Tracks: Ofili Breaks Three African Records in One Year

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili is making waves in her first year as a professional athlete, setting three African records in quick succession, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

At just 21 years old, Ofili has broken continental records in the 150m (16.30s), 200m indoors (22.11s), and 300m indoors (35.99s).

Her latest achievement came in the 150m straight at the Adidas Atlanta City Games on Saturday, where she clocked 16.30s, surpassing Marie Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast’s 16.60s record. Ofili narrowly missed the late Tori Bowie’s world record by 0.006s, with her training partner Candace Hill also finishing with the same 16.30s time and winning the race.

The Louisiana State University track star turned professional by signing with Adidas last year. However, her transition was initially hampered by injuries, which affected her performance at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where she couldn’t progress beyond the semi-finals.
