CAF Unveils Draw Procedures for 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the draw procedures for the qualifiers of the 35th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted in Morocco in 2025.

Ghana finds itself in Pot 1 alongside African Champions Cote D’Ivoire, host Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria, DR. Congo, South Africa, and Mali, among others such as Algeria, Tunisia, and Cameroon.

CAF has clarified that the seeding is determined by the official FIFA rankings released on June 20, 2024. The 48 qualified teams for the second round of qualifiers have been divided into 4 tiers.

The qualifiers will feature 12 groups of 4 teams each (Group A to L). Teams finishing first and second in 11 groups, where the host nation is not included, will advance to the final tournament. In the host nation’s group, only one team will qualify alongside the host itself, as it automatically qualifies.

The draw is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 14:30 local time (12:30 GMT). It will involve 48 African nations vying to secure their place in the prestigious event, marking a crucial step in the journey towards the 35th edition of Africa’s premier football competition.
