Southampton Submit Bid for Super Eagles Defender Bright Osayi-Samuel Amid Contract Talks with Fenerbahçe

Newly promoted English Premier League side Southampton have launched an official bid for Super Eagles and Fenerbahçe full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel, Sportblog247.com reports.

The 26-year-old versatile defender played a key role in Fenerbahçe’s impressive season, narrowly missing out on the Turkish Super Lig title. Osayi-Samuel featured in 23 games, scored four goals, and provided two assists.

His stellar performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Leeds United, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Southampton. According to Turkish outlet AS Marca, the Saints have submitted a bid in the region of £6.5m to bring Osayi-Samuel back to England.

However, Southampton faces stiff competition, as the prospect of playing under new manager Jose Mourinho is enticing for the former Queens Park Rangers defender. Fenerbahçe has also offered a new two-year deal to the Nigerian international, who has entered the final twelve months of his current contract, though he has yet to make a decision.

Southampton is gearing up for life back in the top flight, with boss Russell Martin actively seeking reinforcements in the transfer market. Left-back Charlie Taylor is expected to join Southampton on a free transfer from Burnley, and Martin is now looking to Turkey for another defensive addition.

The final decision on Osayi-Samuel’s future may hinge on Mourinho. Should Osayi-Samuel delay his decision regarding Fenerbahçe’s contract offer, the Turkish club may look to sell him to avoid losing him for free next summer.
