Team Ghana Departs for Intensive Pre-Olympic Training in Strasbourg

The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) announced that Team Ghana will depart for Strasbourg, France, on Sunday, July 7, for a two-week intensive training camp. Following the camp, the team will travel by train to the Games Village in Paris on July 22.

The GOC is funding Team Ghana’s pre-games preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Ghana will be represented by nine athletes competing in athletics and swimming.

Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, the GOC President, stated that the committee is aiding the government in ensuring a successful campaign for Team Ghana, thereby alleviating some of the government’s financial pressures. The GOC has budgeted €35,000 for the pre-games camp, excluding flight tickets and per diems.

Support has been received from the French Embassy in Ghana and a pre-games subsidy from the International Olympic Committee for the pre-games camp and acclimatization. However, the budget for the Games is managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, so the exact figure could not be confirmed.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024. At the last Games in Tokyo, Ghana presented athletes in four disciplines: Athletics, Boxing, Weightlifting, and Judo, and won a bronze medal in boxing by Samuel Takyi.
