Sportblog247.com has learned exclusively that Albanian champions KF Egnatia are on the brink of announcing the signing of Nigeria U23 international Daniel Wotlai.
Described as a central midfielder in the mold of Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi, Wotlai arrived in Albania on Thursday ahead of his imminent unveiling. The only remaining formality is the official announcement, following Wotlai’s electronic signing of a three-year contract with KF Egnatia before departing Nigeria.
At just 21 years old, Wotlai has already amassed extensive experience in the Nigeria Premier Football League, featuring in over 100 games during his tenure with Abia Warriors. He was also a key player for the Olympic national team, although they fell short of qualifying for the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations. Wotlai made his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Costa Rica in November 2022.
Known for his robust marking, tackling ability, interceptions, passing skills, and impressive physical attributes including stamina and strength, Wotlai garnered a reputation as a standout performer in the NPFL.
KF Egnatia, having secured last season’s Albanian Superliga title, is preparing to compete in the first qualifying round of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League.
