Felix Agu, Open to Representing Super Eagles, Signs New Deal with Werder Bremen

German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen have announced on their official website that Felix Agu has committed his future to the River Islanders by signing a new contract.

Agu, who joined Werder Bremen from VfL Osnabrück in the summer of 2020, has extended his contract a year before its expiration. Per club policy, Werder Bremen have not disclosed the length and financial terms of the contract, but reports indicate that the right-back is now contracted to the 1992 European Cup Winners Cup winners until 2027.

Since joining Werder Bremen, Agu has appeared in 72 matches, scoring two goals and providing seven assists.

A former Germany U21 international, the Osnabrück native expressed his openness to representing the Super Eagles in December 2021. Having played only two friendly games for Germany’s youth team, Agu does not need to request a one-time change of association from Germany to Nigeria before donning the Super Eagles jersey.

Commenting on his new deal, Agu said: “I’ve been here for four years, and since we were relegated, I think we’ve kept on getting better as a team and players have been able to develop at Werder. I feel at home in the team, the club, and the city and think these are perfect conditions for me to take the next step in my career.”

For the upcoming season, Agu has been assigned the number 27 jersey at Werder Bremen. Meanwhile, another player on the radar of the Nigerian Federation, Justin Njinmah, will wear number 11.
