The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ghana remains silent despite growing calls to release the letter that a group of alleged Ghanaian para-athletes used to obtain visas for the Bergren Marathon in Oslo, Norway. Out of the group, nine absconded, one was apprehended, and another was found dead.

The scandal came to light a week ago when Ghana’s Ministry of National Security reported the actions of the alleged para-athletes in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee-Ghana, claimed in a video statement that his signature was forged in relation to the controversy.

Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, distanced himself from the incident, stating that due processes were not followed and criticized the Norwegian Embassy for not verifying with the Ministry.

Frederick Assor, Para-Athletics Commissioner on the National Paralympic Committee Ghana Board, has also urged the Norwegian Embassy to release the letter for clarification. However, according to the BBC, the Norwegian Embassy has stated that it does not comment on individual cases due to “confidentiality.”
