The United States’ quest for a fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal remains on track after securing a place in the quarter-finals with a victory over South Sudan.
Ranked 33rd in the world, the Bright Stars were outmatched by the 16-time champions and fell 103-86 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium.
USA led from the first quarter and maintained their dominance throughout the game, with Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
South Sudan’s Nuni Omot stood out with a game-high 24 points.
While the match was entertaining, it lacked the drama of their previous encounter earlier this month, when the USA had to come from 16 points down to secure a 101-100 victory in London.
This win for the USA was never in doubt. They will conclude their Group C qualifiers by facing Puerto Rico on Saturday, while South Sudan must secure a result against Serbia to progress.
