FIFA Licensed Agent and longtime scout Pamela Ansah-Asamoah has identified inadequate scouting as a significant problem for Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.
In an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports, Ansah-Asamoah discussed the challenges facing the two giants as they prepare for the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season. Reflecting on her experience with Liberty Professionals and legendary football administrator Sly Tetteh, she noted that both clubs are under pressure to improve their performances after disappointing seasons.
Kotoko finished sixth last season but faced setbacks, including losses to Nations FC and Accra Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium. Hearts finished 14th in the 2023-2024 season, marking a significant dip after winning the Ghana Premier League title in the 2020-2021 season.
Ansah-Asamoah, granddaughter of Ghana sports legend Nii Adjin-Tettey and a seasoned scout, pointed to the lack of effective scouting as a key reason behind the poor results of these major clubs.
“The problem with Hearts and Kotoko is about getting good scouts for the team. If Hearts offloaded 20 players at the end of July and registration ends at the end of August, how long can they scout for players? The players need time to go through trials, adapt to the team’s system of play before the league starts.”
She emphasized that the primary issue for Hearts and Kotoko is scouting, asserting that they need the right people to identify suitable players.
Since the start of the offseason, both Hearts and Kotoko have signed several new players in preparation for the upcoming season.
