Ghana Coach Yussif Basigi Announces Final Squad for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Ghanaian coach Yussif Basigi has revealed his final squad for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, set to take place from August 31 to September 22, 2024. The 21-player squad, which arrived in Colombia last week, includes key players such as Auburn University’s goalkeeper Jenna Kayla Sarpong and Seattle United ECNL defender Alexandra Emefa Tay.

Midfielder Stella Nyamekye returns to the squad after missing the African Games in March due to injury. The forward line will feature Mafia Nyame of AS FAR, alongside Salamatu Abdulai and Mary Amponsah from Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

Basigi is hopeful that the squad’s early arrival and preparation will enable them to advance beyond the group stage for the first time in their seventh World Cup appearance. The Black Princesses are drawn in Group E with Japan, Austria, and New Zealand.
