Al Ahly’s standout player, Percy Tau, played a key role in a group of senior players successfully negotiating with the South African Football Association regarding AFCON bonuses, culminating in the signing of a memorandum of understanding announced on Sunday.
Expressing his satisfaction with the agreement, Tau emphasized the broader scope of the discussions beyond monetary concerns. “We are happy we were able to finalize everything,” he remarked. “I don’t think that money was the only issue; there were other issues to sort out… now we just want to focus on football.”
Tau, a star for the Red Devils, further discussed his role in guiding younger players during the tournament. Being one of three players in the squad with prior AFCON experience, he expressed his commitment to mentoring and supporting the team’s emerging talents.
Additionally, Tau touched upon the unique scenario of facing his Al Ahly teammate, Aliou Dieng, in a group stage match scheduled for January 16th. The anticipation of competing against a familiar face adds an intriguing element to Tau’s AFCON journey.
