The Egyptian Basketball Federation made an announcement on Tuesday, revealing that German coach Henrick Rödl will assume the role of head coach for the national team. Rödl’s appointment comes as the team gears up for the Olympic qualifiers scheduled to take place from July 2nd to 7th.
Egypt’s national basketball team narrowly missed securing an Olympic spot through the FIBA World Cup, falling short by just one point behind the South Sudanese national team. South Sudan earned qualification as the best-performing African team in the competition.
Henrick Rödl, who previously managed Ittihad Alexandria from October 2022 to June 2023, is set to take over from Canadian coach Roy Rana. Rana, appointed as Egypt’s coach in January 2022, served until November 2023 before his departure. Rödl now assumes the crucial role as Egypt looks to navigate the Olympic qualifiers under his leadership.
