“Ghana is Africa’s Swimming Capital” – Mohamed Diop on 2024 Africa Aquatics Championships

President of African Aquatics, Mohamed Diop, praised Ghana for hosting the 2024 Africa Aquatics Championships, describing it as a major achievement for the country, particularly after its successful organization of the 13th African Games. The event took place at the state-of-the-art Aquatic Center at the Borteyman Sports Complex, which came alive with intense competition following Nigeria’s withdrawal as the original host.

Diop highlighted Ghana’s growing prominence in African swimming, stating, “Accra is now the swimming capital of Africa.” He noted that Ghana had organized five African championships in just four years, including zonal and continental events, underscoring the country’s capacity to host major tournaments.

On Day 1 of the championships, Ghana’s top swimmers, including Abeiku Jackson, Joselle Alice Mensah, Harry Stacey, Nubia Adjei, Michael Arthur Crabbeman, and Naima Kankam, lived up to expectations with strong performances in their respective events, marking a successful start for the host nation.
