Victoria Ezebinyuo Open to Representing Nigeria After Germany Youth Experience

German-born defender Victoria Ezebinyuo, who currently plays for SC Freiburg, has expressed her willingness to switch allegiance to Nigeria for international play. The 22-year-old, born to a Nigerian father and a German mother, is a product of Freiburg’s youth system.

Ezebinyuo previously represented Germany’s U-17 team, contributing to their victory at the 2019 UEFA U-17 Women’s Euros, where she played in three matches against England, Austria, and Portugal in Bulgaria. However, she is eligible to play for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Falcons, through her father.

In an interview with Sportblog247.com, Ezebinyuo revealed her interest in acquiring a Nigerian passport to wear Nigeria’s iconic green and white jersey. “I would be interested in obtaining a second citizenship so that I can play for the Nigerian national team,” she stated.

Despite her openness to joining the Super Falcons, she noted that there has been no communication from the Nigeria Football Federation or team officials regarding a potential call-up.

The Super Falcons, after a challenging campaign at the recent Olympic Games in Paris, where they exited in the group stage, are preparing for the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
