Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially endorsed Wahid Enitan Oshodi’s candidacy for the presidency of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF). Oshodi, a former Lagos Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Social Development, is contesting the position at the ATTF’s 2024 Elective Annual General Meeting on October 15 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the government praised Oshodi’s deep passion for table tennis, which has significantly influenced the sport’s development in both Lagos and across Africa.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Oshodi’s extensive contributions, particularly his efforts in promoting youth engagement in the sport and identifying emerging talent. “He has made Lagos and Nigeria proud with his impressive track record within and outside Africa,” the governor remarked. Sanwo-Olu also noted Oshodi’s leadership roles in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the ATTF, where he currently serves as an Executive Vice President and Deputy President, respectively.
Oshodi’s leadership has seen Lagos rise as a table tennis hub, notably during the successful hosting of the ‘Eko 2012’ National Sports Festival and the introduction of the International Sports Classics series. If elected, Oshodi would become the second Nigerian to hold the ATTF presidency, following Engr. Segun George, and would further cement Nigeria’s influence in continental sports leadership.

Frank Smith, the director of Matchroom Boxing, has reiterated his desire to see Anthony Joshua face off against Tyson Fury, despite Joshua’s recent loss to Daniel Dubois. British boxing fans have long awaited this heavyweight clash, but the fight has yet to materialize, even after years of anticipation.
Joshua’s defeat to Dubois last month initially cast doubts over the possibility of a fight with Fury, especially with the “Gypsy King” expected to face Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch later this year. However, Smith remains confident that the bout between Joshua and Fury still needs to happen, noting the strong demand from fans.
“Win, lose, or draw, everyone wants to see AJ versus Fury,” Smith told SportsBoom. “That’s regardless of previous results involving either of them. It needs to happen. People want to see it happen, and I’m sure it will. It’s too big not to happen.”
Smith also highlighted Joshua’s resilience, pointing to his past ability to bounce back after defeats, including his rematch victory against Andy Ruiz and his improved performance against Usyk. With both fighters still at the top of the sport, a Joshua vs. Fury bout would undoubtedly be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

Namibia’s rising boxing star, Tryagain “The Issue” Ndevelo, is determined to make a mark in the elite boxing scene by targeting a gold medal at the upcoming AFBC African Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, DR Congo, from October 16 to 26, 2024. The 25-year-old boxer, who has enjoyed success at the youth level, aims to cement his place among Africa’s top fighters.
Ndevelo first made waves internationally in 2016 when he won a silver medal at the Region 5 Youth Games in Angola. The following year, he continued to impress with a bronze medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, where he delivered knockout victories in the early rounds. Despite this early promise, success in the elite category has been elusive for Ndevelo.
Having competed in major tournaments such as the Commonwealth Games and African Games, Ndevelo has faced tough competition but has yet to secure a breakthrough medal. His notable achievements include three consecutive gold medals in the Five Nations tournament (2021-2023), but he remains hungry for greater success at the continental level.
Ndevelo is determined to make his AFBC African Boxing Championships debut count and believes he is ready to conquer the featherweight division. “I’m going to Kinshasa to win gold,” said Ndevelo. “I want my opponents to remember my name because I’ll hit them hard and put Namibia on the map.”
With the support of coach Albertus Tsamaseb and Namibia’s national team, Ndevelo is confident this is his time to shine. The AFBC African Boxing Championships, Africa’s oldest boxing tournament, will be a critical platform for him to demonstrate his growth and determination.
Ndevelo’s southpaw stance gives him an edge, as it presents challenges to orthodox fighters, further bolstering his confidence ahead of the championships.
