Super Falcons star Esther Okoronkwo delivered a masterclass on Saturday, netting twice and adding an assist as AFC Toronto stormed into the Northern Super League (NSL) playoffs with a commanding 7–0 victory over Vancouver Rise FC.
The Nigerian forward opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a superbly curled free kick, setting the tone for Toronto’s dominant display. She later doubled her tally in the 66th minute, underlining the blistering form that has made her one of the league’s most dangerous attackers.
Kaylee Hunter also grabbed a brace to lift her season total to 12 goals, while Kaela Hansen, Sarah Stratigakis, and Jade Kovacevic—who netted her first of the campaign—completed the rout.
The emphatic win not only ended Vancouver’s impressive eight-match unbeaten streak but also secured Toronto’s playoff berth with four games to spare, their biggest victory of the season so far.
Okoronkwo’s remarkable run continues, with the 2024 WAFCON standout now boasting seven goals and seven assists this term, keeping Toronto firmly atop the standings as they chase the league title.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has provided a positive update on Victor Osimhen’s recovery, assuring fans the Nigerian striker will be back on the pitch soon.
Osimhen sustained a bruised chin during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda last week, forcing an early return to Turkey for treatment. Despite ongoing discomfort, the 26-year-old is making steady progress.
The injury kept the powerful forward out of Galatasaray’s 2–0 victory over Eyupspor on Saturday, but Buruk remains optimistic. “Victor is not completely free from pain yet, but we expect him to rejoin action shortly,” the coach stated.
Galatasaray supporters will be eager to see their star striker back as the club continues its domestic and European campaigns.

Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has firmly dismissed reports suggesting he accused Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen of faking an injury to protect his club form.
The controversy began after Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, where Osimhen—currently playing for Galatasaray—lasted just 30 minutes before a heavy challenge left him with a bruised shin. Though he attempted to continue, the striker was substituted for Cyriel Dessers minutes later and subsequently returned to Turkey for treatment, missing Nigeria’s next fixture against South Africa.
Soon after, social media was awash with claims that Gyan had mocked the situation, alleging Osimhen feigned the injury to stay fresh for Galatasaray. The supposed quote—“Go to Africa, play a bit, then act injured”—triggered heated debate between Ghanaian and Nigerian fans.
Gyan, however, wasted no time setting the record straight. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the 39-year-old legend stated emphatically that he never granted any interview about Nigeria or Osimhen’s injury.
> “Fabricated quotes attributed to me about Victor Osimhen have gone viral on social media,” Gyan wrote. “It’s important to set the record straight: I never granted any interview about Nigeria. The last AFCON game versus Cameroon was the last time I spoke about Osimhen’s talent. Don’t spread FAKE news.”
Meanwhile, Galatasaray remain hopeful that Osimhen will recover in time for their crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
The story serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread in the football world—especially when it involves two of Africa’s biggest stars.

Morocco’s recent African Nations Championship (CHAN) victory has only sharpened their hunger for a bigger prize—the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Former Atlas Lions captain Karim El Ahmadi, speaking to CAF Online, revealed that after edging Madagascar 3–2 in the 2024 CHAN final in Nairobi, the next mission is crystal clear: lift the continent’s most prestigious trophy.
“There is no room for second or third place,” the 40-year-old ex-Feyenoord and Aston Villa midfielder declared. “The only target is to win AFCON and keep the trophy in Morocco. That’s every player’s biggest motivation.”
El Ahmadi, who retired in 2022 after featuring at the 2017 and 2018 AFCON tournaments, also highlighted the country’s broader ambition to welcome the world. “I hope visitors enjoy Morocco—there’s so much to discover. Above all, we want fans from every nation to feel at home and want to return year after year.”
Morocco remains one of Africa’s most decorated sides, boasting four continental crowns: the 1976 AFCON title and three CHAN championships (2018, 2020, 2024), along with six FIFA World Cup appearances. With the AFCON on the horizon, the Atlas Lions are eager to add another chapter to their storied history.
