Mohamed Salah, sitting on 61 international goals and just 7 away from equalling Egypt’s all-time top scorer record, chose humility over personal glory. Instead of taking the penalty himself, the Pharaohs’ captain handed the ball to Omar Marmoush, allowing the youngster to net his first goal in the qualifiers.

Former Western Regional Football Association chairman, Kojo Yankah, has held Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, responsible for the Black Stars’ 1-1 draw against Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars looked set for victory in N’Djamena after Jordan Ayew’s 17th-minute strike, but a late equalizer from Ecua Celestin denied Ghana maximum points at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Yankah accused Kofi Adams of unsettling the team with his comments about the Black Stars’ budget just days before the crucial clash.
“Kofi Adams must be blamed for this result,” Yankah said. “You don’t disclose budget details publicly right before an important game. Did he even consult the Management Committee or players before making such statements?”
Yankah, who openly declared his affiliation with the NDC, added that Adams’ actions mirrored similar controversies from former minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye, which also had negative consequences for the national team.
Despite the slip, Ghana remain top of Group I with 16 points, three ahead of Madagascar and four clear of Mali. The Black Stars will shift focus to their decisive home fixture against Mali on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
