After months of battling injuries and watching the Black Stars from afar, Elisha Owusu is ready to write a new chapter with Ghana’s senior national team.
The Auxerre midfielder, who first wore the Ghana jersey in March 2022, played a vital role in the dramatic World Cup playoff against Nigeria that sealed Ghana’s ticket to Qatar. Since then, however, setbacks have kept him away from Otto Addo’s plans.
Now, fully fit and commanding the midfield for Ligue 1 side Auxerre, Owusu is determined to reclaim his spot.
> “I’m so motivated to play for Ghana. To be in the team means a lot. I’ll do my maximum, my best to be in the team, and we’ll let the coach decide,” he declared with conviction.
Ghana faces a tricky path in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, locked in battles against Mali, Madagascar and the Central African Republic. With September fixtures against Chad and Mali looming, Owusu believes momentum is key. Two wins could propel the Black Stars into pole position for qualification.
