President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has embarked on a strategic mission to Europe, holding high-level meetings with the heads of the Albanian and Kosovo Football Federations to discuss a groundbreaking collaboration among the three nations.
In Tirana, Albania, Okraku met with Armand Duka, President of the Albanian FA, and Agim Ademi, President of the Kosovo FA, to deliberate on exchanging ideas, fostering mutual growth, and promoting innovative football development practices.
A major highlight of the trip was Ghana’s interest in adopting a centralised Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system — similar to the one already operational in the Albanian top-tier league — as a more cost-effective solution for the Ghana Premier League.
“I am deeply impressed with the systems in place here,” said Okraku. “Working closely with my colleagues from Albania and Kosovo gives us an opportunity to adopt practical solutions like a centralised VAR system for Ghana’s league.”
Albanian FA President Armand Duka commended Ghana’s influence in global football:
“We admire your international success and believe your experience can inspire and guide our development efforts.”
Kosovo FA President Agim Ademi echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence in the power of joint efforts:
“Football remains a transformative tool. Through partnerships and shared experiences, we can each grow and strengthen our game.”
The move marks a significant step by the GFA in its mission to modernize Ghanaian football and foster global alliances that enrich the sport across continents.
