GFA Defends Appointment of Five New Coaches to Strengthen Black Stars for 2026 World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has justified its decision to appoint five additional coaches to the Black Stars’ technical team, describing the move as a strategic step toward achieving success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Anton Schäfer explained that the reinforcements are part of a deliberate plan to enhance the team’s preparation for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

“The five new additions to the Black Stars technical team were strategically brought on board to ensure Ghana succeeds at the World Cup,” Schäfer said in an interview with Medeama FM.

The GFA recently confirmed the appointments as part of efforts to strengthen the technical structure of the senior national team ahead of the global showpiece in North America.

The newly appointed personnel include French tactician Alain Ravera, Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, Spanish coach José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, and British-born Ghanaian performance specialist Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

The FA believes the combined experience and expertise of the five professionals will provide the necessary technical and performance boost as Ghana targets an impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Albert Amoah Eyes Black Stars Call-Up After Impressive Kotoko Form

Albert Amoah Eyes Black Stars Call-Up After Impressive Kotoko Form

Asante Kotoko forward Albert Amoah has expressed his desire to represent the Black Stars, insisting that every Ghanaian player deserves an opportunity to wear the national colours.

The in-form striker has been a standout performer for the Porcupine Warriors this season following his return from a short loan stint with Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi. His consistent displays have sparked conversations about a potential national team call-up.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Amoah admitted that featuring for the Black Stars would be a dream fulfilled.

“Every player would be happy to be part of the Black Stars. I’m a Ghanaian, so if I’m part of the Black Stars team, I think I’ll be very happy,” he said.

The Kotoko attacker also stressed his readiness to embrace the challenge if handed the opportunity.

“As far as I’m Ghanaian and playing, I believe everyone deserves a chance. So if the opportunity comes for me to play, I’ll be ready to take on that task,” he added.

Amoah is expected to lead the line for Asante Kotoko when they host arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the highly anticipated Super Clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in their Matchday 22 fixture.

Kudus Set to Return Under New Spurs Boss After Thomas Frank’s Exit

Kudus Set to Return Under New Spurs Boss After Thomas Frank’s Exit

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus will return from injury in April to a new managerial setup at Tottenham Hotspur following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.

The Danish tactician was relieved of his duties after a dismal run of results in the Premier League, with Spurs failing to register a win in their last eight matches — their longest winless streak since October 2008.

Frank’s departure was confirmed after Tuesday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result that compounded the North London club’s struggles.

Kudus had been Frank’s first signing after his appointment last summer, and the former Ajax star quickly became a central figure in the manager’s plans. The Ghanaian attacker played a key role in Spurs’ strong start to the campaign before suffering an injury setback.

His absence has significantly affected the team’s attacking output, with Spurs struggling to create clear-cut chances without their influential forward.

Despite the recent downturn in domestic competitions, Frank guided Tottenham to a fourth-place finish and secured automatic qualification to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League earlier in the season.

Spurs are yet to officially name a successor, as the club continues to assess potential candidates. Former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly among the frontrunners following his departure from Marseille.

Dr. Pambo Checks on Salisu in Monaco as Black Stars Step Up World Cup Preparations

Dr. Pambo Checks on Salisu in Monaco as Black Stars Step Up World Cup Preparations

Black Stars head team doctor, Dr. Prince Pambo, has paid a visit to injured defender Mohammed Salisu in Monaco as part of efforts to monitor the player’s recovery ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Dr. Pambo travelled to France to offer support and personally assess Salisu’s condition after the centre-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January during Monaco’s Ligue 1 clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

The visit allowed the Black Stars’ medical chief to evaluate the progress of the 24-year-old, who has already begun rehabilitation and resumed light gym work in recent days, showing encouraging signs of recovery.

Although Salisu is expected to be sidelined for four to six months, there remains optimism that the former Southampton defender could regain fitness in time for the World Cup in North America in June.

Salisu has been a vital figure for Ghana, featuring in seven FIFA World Cup qualifiers and scoring twice as the Black Stars secured qualification for the global showpiece in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Before the injury setback, the centre-back had established himself as a regular starter for AS Monaco and delivered impressive performances in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

He made his Black Stars debut in September 2022, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Brazil. Salisu netted his first international goal in a 2-0 friendly victory over Switzerland on November 17, 2022.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pambo is also expected to check on other Ghanaian players based in France, including injured midfielder Abu Francis, as Ghana intensifies preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in what promises to be a challenging group.

Premier League Giants Eye Ghanaian Midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi After Stellar Display for Nordsjaelland

Interest in Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi is intensifying, with Premier League heavyweights Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United reportedly tracking the 20-year-old FC Nordsjaelland star.

According to TeamTalk, scouts and club representatives were in attendance over the weekend as Yirenkyi helped Nordsjaelland secure a 2-1 victory over Sonderjyske in the Danish Superliga. The midfielder opened the scoring and later assisted the match-winning goal, impressing with his vision, composure, and ability to control the midfield. His style of play has drawn comparisons to fellow Ghanaian legend Michael Essien.

Yirenkyi’s performances have attracted attention beyond England’s top clubs.

Brighton & Hove Albion have monitored him since last year, while Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Brentford, and West Ham United are also reportedly keeping tabs on the emerging talent.

FC Nordsjaelland are in no rush to sell, having rejected a January bid of around £15 million and recently securing Yirenkyi on a long-term contract. Any potential summer transfer is now expected to command a fee exceeding €25 million, setting up a competitive race for one of Europe’s brightest young midfielders.
