Ghanaian defender Razak Simpson has pledged to give his all in a bid to solidify his place in the Black Stars setup as the team prepares for the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
The Nations FC centre-back has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year, earning his senior debut during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in Luanda—a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. He further underlined his potential in March by scoring his first international goal during the 2025 Unity Cup in London, helping Ghana to a commanding 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago to secure third place at the GTech Stadium.
While his performances have drawn praise, Simpson remains humble and focused. He’s well aware of the depth of talent in Otto Addo’s squad and understands that consistency is key to keeping his place.
“[My first call-up] has really been amazing because I’ve always dreamed of playing for the Black Stars,” Simpson told reporters. “Growing up, I watched legends like Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah. Seeing them inspired me, and I always hoped I would wear the Ghana jersey one day. By God’s grace, that dream has come true.”
The 26-year-old, who previously featured for the West African Football Academy (WAFA), emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement.
“I know I have to work even harder because there are a lot of talented and hardworking players in Ghana who are also vying for this opportunity. Being part of the Black Stars is a big privilege, and I must keep pushing myself to stay here.”
Looking ahead to Ghana’s World Cup campaign, Simpson struck a confident tone, backing the team to overcome the challenges ahead.
“We’re going to qualify—there are no two ways about it,” he declared. “The remaining matches won’t be easy, but with the support of the fans and our collective effort, we will make it to the World Cup. One hundred percent.”
On the domestic front, Simpson was a pillar at the back for Nations FC in the recently concluded 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season. He made 20 appearances, scored four goals, and played a critical role as the Kumasi-based club finished fifth under controversial circumstances.
With determination in his heart and form on his side, Razak Simpson is fast becoming one of the Black Stars’ most promising defensive prospects—one who isn’t just dreaming of the World Cup but is ready to fight to be part of it.

Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari was at the heart of Austin FC’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls on Sunday night, delivering a standout performance in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Matchday 18 clash.
The match, held at the electric Q2 Stadium, saw Bukari start and feature for 81 minutes, playing a crucial role in what proved to be a thrilling encounter. The 26-year-old former Black Stars forward was instrumental in Austin FC’s winning goal, registering an assist that helped secure all three points for his side.
Austin got off to a flying start with Guilherme Biro opening the scoring just six minutes into the match, courtesy of a well-timed assist from Owen Wolff. But the Red Bulls responded shortly after, leveling the game in the 23rd minute through an own goal by Brandon Vazquez, leaving both sides evenly poised at halftime.
The second half saw Austin FC turn up the pressure, with Bukari stepping up when it mattered most. In a swift attacking move, Bukari delivered a precise assist to Brandon Vazquez, who made up for his earlier mistake by scoring the decisive goal that gave Austin the edge.
Bukari’s pace, vision, and creativity were on full display throughout the match, reinforcing his growing influence in the MLS since joining Austin FC. The Ghanaian winger has now made 18 appearances this season, contributing a goal and an assist, as he continues to adapt and thrive in the American top-flight league.
As Austin FC climbs the MLS standings, Bukari’s form will be vital—not just for his club, but also as he looks to reassert his presence on the international stage with Ghana.

Ghana’s emerging football gem, Jerry Afriyie, is making waves with both club and country as he sets his sights firmly on a long-term future in European football.
At just 18 years old, Afriyie’s journey from Division Two side Thoughts FC in Ghana to the international spotlight has been nothing short of remarkable. His talent was quickly recognised by scouts from Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah, who secured his signature before loaning him out to Spanish third-tier side CD Lugo.
It was in Spain that Afriyie began to truly shine. He found the back of the net four times in just ten appearances for Lugo, showcasing his raw attacking instincts and flair. But despite being officially tied to a Saudi club, Afriyie is quick to clarify that his goal has always been Europe.
“Some people might misunderstand the situation,” he explained. “But I didn’t sign with Al Qadsiah because I wanted to play in Saudi Arabia. It’s part of a project—they recruit young players and give them exposure in Europe. Most of us don’t actually play in Saudi Arabia.”
The ambitious striker was crystal clear about his intentions: “I’m not planning to play in Saudi. I want to play in Europe—leagues like Ligue 1 and others. That’s what I’m aiming for.”
Afriyie’s rise reached a new milestone in 2025 when he received his first senior call-up to the Ghana national team. He made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. Although the Black Stars fell 2-1, Afriyie’s goal was a bright spot and a moment he will never forget.
“That day, I couldn’t sleep, I was so happy,” he recalled. “Coming into the senior team and scoring on your debut is not easy. It was overwhelming, but I was very happy.”
Prior to that, Afriyie had already impressed in Ghana’s U-20 setup, including a notable showing at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
With a potent mix of hunger, humility, and talent, Jerry Afriyie is rapidly carving out a space for himself among Ghana’s most promising football exports. As he continues to develop, European clubs are likely to keep a close eye on a player whose dream is clear—and whose potential is undeniable.
